I have a passion for nursing. I love so many of the components of nursing. Recently I have become involved in the American Association for the History of Nursing. By understanding nursing’s past, it helps us to define the present and influence the future of our profession. I am also very influenced by the direction the future of nursing is taking. I believe we will see more online learning and the use of information technology in our nursing practice and education. I am a professor of nursing at Clark College. I have been affiliated with Clark College since 1990. My Clark College web page can also be accessed from here at my personal web page. Critical care has long been a passion of mine and you will find many links to critical care and cardiac care.
I am a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) and maintain my Critical Care certification (CCRN). Additionally I am a member of the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS). I am currently studying towards my Oncology Certification in Nursing (OCN). Beginning in 2011, Laurie will serve as president elect of the Mt Hood Oncology Chapter. She is undertaking a three year commitment to serve oncology nurses in the Northwest. I have an ongoing list of my favorite Nursing web sites and Resources.
In the most recent years I have come to learn about genetics and breast cancer. Some things we do not choose to learn, rather they find us, and learning only enhances our life travels. It seems that I am destined to work in Oncology. I started my nursing career in oncology and again years later I find myself drawn to this specialty. Cancer has also touched my family in many ways. You will find sites relating to breast cancer as well as ovarian cancer and it’s linkage with genetics. Currently, I am enjoying practicing in critical care, cardiac care, anticoagulation clinic and telephone triage or advice nursing. I also own a business “”RN Laurie’s NCLEX Review” I have been teaching NCLEX Review courses since 1992. It is especially satisfying to help graduate nurses to prepare and pass the NCLEX nursing boards. I have worked as a pediatric nurse and also spent time as a mental health nurse working at a state mental hospital on a locked unit. I have never been bored in my nursing practice. I hope you find the web sites useful. If you find a web site that is not functioning, notify me by email. I hold Florence Nightingale in high esteem. She was a woman well ahead of her time. You will find wonderful information about Florence Nightingale at this next site.
